The Catastrophe Risk team, which sits within the Property & Speciality Lines division of this international Insurance giant is looking to recruit a Weather & Atmospheric Risk Analyst. This Swiss Risk insurance job is based in Zurich.
Covering a wide range of speciality lines and treaties the Catastrophe Risk business unit is charged with the assessment of natural hazards and their impact upon the business. It comprises a wide range of professionals and experts from a diverse background including actuarial, engineering and the sciences. The “Atmospheric Perils” unit covers risks arising from weather linked events like hurricanes and storms. This team aims to build “bleeding edge” models and probability scenarios that cover windstorm hazards. These systems are then employed by the groups underwriters and pricing professionals to accurately cost risk of weather linked hazards.
The Weather & Atmospheric Risk Analyst employs the latest tools to analysis previous events and model potential risks. It essential you are able to take advanced scientific results and data and transform them into easily understandable conclusions and reports that can be used by none scientific colleagues. In this well paid specialist Swiss insurance job you will help develop Storm Rating & assessment models and deliver them to both advanced and emerging insurance markets upon a global basis. You will on a daily basis provide data, reports and models that can be sued by the underwriters to support the market penetration of the firms products.
To be considered it is expected you will be a scientific graduate in natural science, engineering or an actuarial discipline. You will also need some in depth knowledge of weather hazards and atmospheric risks like storms and cyclones. The firm actively welcomes applications from skilled weather forecasters, analysts and even storm chasers. To help you to work with none scientific colleagues a full re-insurance familiarisation course on the products and business model(s) will be made available. After a period of time in this type of position it is customary for these type of analyst to head up one of the firms specialist underwriting and pricing departments. Finally you should have some skills in building complex computer models. Individuals with the right background and Mat lab or GIS skills are encouraged to apply.
