This international re-insurer is looking to recruit a Senior Underwriter to one of their core underwriting departments in a senior / leadership function.

This organisation offers a wide range of traditional reinsurance products and related services, which are complemented by insurance-based corporate finance solutions and supplementary services. Essentially their core business segments are: risk transfer, risk finance and asset management.

The Retro & Syndication department is responsible for hedging their peak exposures. They aim to reduce the highest peaks by transferring risks to capital and retro markets to protect against catastrophic claims, to reduce annual earnings volatility, to diversify risk and to obtain additional underwriting capacity. This business unit has been instrumental in the development of a wide variety of hedging technologies such as cat bonds, derivatives, sidecar, traditional retrocession and risk swaps. To further increase that capacity and meet increasing business demand they are looking to recruit an experienced project and transaction manager for the Retro & Syndication unit in Zurich.

The Senior Underwriter is charged with helping to improve earnings and the overall risk profile. As a part of this overall duty you could be responsible, in this well paid Swiss insurance job, for managing and leading projects and capital markets transactions, retro covers and risk swaps. It will be your task to execute these transactions from structuring, pricing and submission through to placement and administration. You will be in contact with external re-insurers, investors and brokers and will also be part of interdisciplinary project teams (products, client markets, risk management, finance, and legal).

To be considered for the Senior Underwriter vacancy you should be experienced in underwriting (experience in pricing would be advantageous), with a full understanding of costing methodologies for natural catastrophe & property. It is anticipated to have realistically gained the necessary experience you will have worked in a similar position at another leading re-insurer for at least three years. You will be expected to be able demonstrate the required knowledge of risk transformation and capital markets. Finally given the international nature of the client base and globally nature of operations you must be fluent in English.

The Senior Underwriter is a senior appointment, requiring a high level of industry and technical Underwriting ability.
